Not Just a Blank Notebook

Most blank notebooks never get used. The problem isn't motivation — it's the lack of a reason to open them. Every notebook and journal in this range has a built-in purpose: a theme, a format, a set of prompts, or a specific activity. That's what separates a useful notebook from a decorative one.

Themed Notebooks

Built around a specific interest — the Waterproof Fishing Notebook goes in the tackle box, the My Family Cookbook Recipe Journal captures recipes worth keeping, and the Creativity Journal has prompts for ideas and projects. These work because they have a clear home and a clear purpose.

Activity & Challenge Formats

The 30 Day Challenge boxes — Happiness, Fitness, Digital Detox, and the F**k It edition — are structured around daily prompts and activities. Less a journal, more a programme. These suits people who want structure and accountability built in rather than a blank page to stare at.

Tiny Diaries

A Tiny Sex Diary, A Tiny Fart Diary, Definitely Not My Passwords — compact, humorous diary formats built around a single very specific theme. Strong gift territory, particularly when paired with something else. They're the kind of thing you pick up, laugh at, and then actually use.

Shop by Use

The quickest way to find the right notebook is by what it's actually for. Here's how the range breaks down.

Outdoors & Hobbies

The Waterproof Fishing Notebook is the standout here — genuinely waterproof, built to go where fishing happens, and practical enough to actually be used on the water. Pair it with The Little Book of Fishing for a straightforward fishing gift that doesn't require much thought.

Cooking & Food

My Family Cookbook Recipe Journal is the one to capture family recipes before they're lost; the Meal Planner by Designworks Ink handles the weekly planning side. The Cocktail Recipe Box Set sits at the crossroads of entertaining and organisation — ideal for the home bartender who wants to track what works.

Creativity & Productivity

The Creativity Journal is built around prompts for ideas, projects, and creative thinking. The Journals For Life Night Notes and Morning Motivation Journal divides the day into reflection and intention. The Go Forth And Be F*cking Awesome Notebook brings the same energy to a more everyday format — for people who want their stationery to have an opinion.

Wellbeing & Challenges

The 30 Day Challenge Activity Boxes — Happiness, Fitness, Digital Detox, and the F**k It Edition — are structured around daily activities and prompts over a month. The Adult and Child Gratitude Journal works across generations. These are for people who want a habit or practice, not just a blank page.

Humorous & Novelty Formats

A Tiny Sex Diary, A Tiny Fart Diary, Definitely Not My Passwords, I Like Pretty Things And The Word F*ck Notepad — these sit in their own cheerfully self-aware corner of the range. Equal parts novelty gift and genuinely usable notebook. Strong add-on gift territory at the right price point.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a notebook and a journal?

A notebook is typically an open-format writing tool — you bring the structure. A journal usually has more specific intent built in, whether that's a theme, daily prompts, or a particular purpose like gratitude or creativity. In practice, the terms are often used interchangeably, but the distinction matters when choosing: a themed journal gives the writer a reason to open it every day that a blank notebook doesn't.

What is the difference between a notebook and a guided journal?

A guided journal is structured around prompts and questions — it tells the writer what to respond to rather than leaving them with a blank page. A themed notebook has a purpose and context but leaves more of the writing open-ended. DadShop stocks both — guided journals are in their own dedicated range, and themed notebooks and journals are here.

Are notebooks and journals good gifts?

Themed ones are — much more so than blank notebooks. A Waterproof Fishing Notebook for someone who fishes, a Creativity Journal for someone who makes things, a My Family Cookbook for someone who cooks — these are gifts that show you actually thought about what the person does. A generic blank notebook says, "I ran out of ideas." A themed one doesn't.

What are the 30 Day Challenge Activity Boxes?

Each 30 Day Challenge box contains 30 daily activity cards built around a central theme — Happiness, Fitness, Digital Detox, or the more irreverent F**k It Edition. They're less of a journal and more of a structured monthly programme — each day has a specific activity or prompt rather than an open-ended writing space. Strong gift choice for someone who wants a challenge or a habit reset.

Is the Waterproof Fishing Notebook actually waterproof?

Yes — it's built specifically for outdoor and on-water use, with pages that resist moisture. It's designed to be used in the conditions where fishing actually happens, not just in a dry shed. It records catches, locations, weather conditions, and notes in a format that survives a splash. One of the more genuinely practical gifts in the range.
